When I got the idea to make a webpage about my life with SM, I never imagined it would grow so much. At first, when I started thinking of my life, I could only come up with a few things that I had experienced, but once I started I couldn't stop. I would be sitting in class or taking a shower and something I had long forgotten would come back to me. I wanted to sort of outline my life, to show how the ignorance of a disorder like SM can affect a person. It really started in January 2006, before that I never allowed myself to think about my SM. It was as though it didn't exist. Then, one day, I did an internet search on it, and I found a lot of information. I knew my story might be able to help some people. I've read that thinking about past bad experiences can be harmful to a person, but for me, once my memories started flooding back to me I actually felt a lot better. I guess I finally knew that they weren't my fault after all, and I could accept them and move on. So this is my webpage. I hope it's helpful to anyone who encounters SM, either in a student, a son or daughter, a grandchild, a friend, or in themselves. Maybe my webpage will help provide some insight into the mind of the selectively mute child you know, or even yourself. Please feel free to pass on the link to anyone you think can be helped by this page. The more people who read it, the better. I would love to think that my page helped change someone else's life, and to know that I helped someone else avoid living through what I did makes it all worth it. NOTE: This page is nowhere near actually being finished, but I'm working on it as fast as I can. I had another page finished, but I had to rush through it and didn't have time to get it as I would have liked it, so I'm redoing the whole thing. I would say I'm about one-third done so far, so keep in mind that it might just stop suddenly. I'm working on it whenever I have a free second but I'm working full time and more, and going to school full time, and doing tons of other stuff too so it's inching along right now.
